Objective

The TR-398 Issue 2 WiFi Performance test plan by the Broadband forum provides a comprehensive set of tests to qualify the performance of WiFi access points (APs) designed for residential and small office environments. Radio performance, Throughput, Connection Stability, Airtime Fairness, AP Co-existence, Mu_MIMO Performance, Spatial Consistency and Long-term Stability are some of the test areas covered in this test plan. The test plan is designed for service providers deploying in home WiFi APs to qualify the APs in the lab before deployment and for equipment makers to test during the development of the APs. Candela Technologies offers a fully automated TR-398 Issue 2 test system. The user can select from the list of tests available. Most tests can run fully automated, though some require user interaction. Measurements are made and compared to the specified PASS/FAIL criteria in the TR-398 Issue 2 test plan and this report will show the summary PASS/FAIL results followed more detailed results for each test.

6.5.3 Automatic Channel Selection


Summary

Automatic Channel Selection Test (ACS) intends to verify the DUT AP can select a good working channel in congested environments.

Test Setup

  1. Configure the system to emulate a 2-meter distance for all stations and APs.
  2. Create STA-1 configured to connec to DUT.
  3. Create interferer AP on channel 6, 20Mhz bandwidth.
  4. Create interferer STA-2 to be able to connect to interferer AP.
  5. Configure DUT to enable Automatic Channel Selection.

Test Procedure

  1. Poweroff the DUT.
  2. Admin up interferer station and let it connect to interferer AP.
  3. Create full-speed TCP traffic flow between AP and STA-2 (download).
  4. Power on DUT and allow STA-1 to associate to the AP.
  5. RRecord channel used by the DUT.
  6. Repeat steps 1-5 inclusive with interferer AP configured for channel 1 and channel 11.
  7. Repeat steps 1-5 inclusive with interferer AP configured for channel 1 and 40Mhz bandwidth.
  8. Repeat steps 1-5 inclusive with interferer AP configured for 5Ghz channels: 42, 58, 106, 122 and 80Mhz bandwidth.

Pass/Fail Criteria

In order to pass the test case, the recorded results SHALL meet the Pass/Fail Criteria, described asfollows:
  1. The DUT SHALL select a channel that is not the same as the channel the Additional AP is operating on and the selected channel SHALL not overlap with the channel the Additional AP is operating on. If the DUT selects the same, or an overlapping channel, the test point SHALL be considered a failure.

The Candela Score for ACS test is percentage of passing tests.
